We have a fabulous location in the heart of the Richmond cafe and restaurant district. The tram at the corner takes you to the Melbourne city centre in minutes via the MCG and Melbourne sporting precinct.

The sleeping accommodation is flexible for couples or families, where you can live like a Richmond local in Melbourne. The kitchen is fully equipped so you can cook your favourite meals anytime. There is a supermarket around the corner where you can fill up on much needed supplies. You have the option to cook or just take a quick stroll to one of the many Richmond restaurants, cafes or bars in this trendy part of Melbourne.

Cafe and Restaurant Culture in Richmond Melbourne
Alto Richmond is just metres from the Swan Street, a famous Richmond cafe and restaurant strip. Across the road is our Melbourne favourite – Torch Cafe – run by the personable Danny, where you can drink what is arguably the best coffee in Melbourne. You’ll often see locals reading a paper over breakfast while trams to Melbourne CBD rumble past. On the weekend even the back lounge is packed with families.
On one corner of Swan St is Eddie Wong, a great Asian restaurant known for its quick food preparation and tasty meals. On the other corner is Vaucluse Hotel, a typical Richmond pub. For quality Japanese food, served fast and without frills, visit our Richmond locale at 91 Swan Street.
One of Richmond Melbourne’s best kept secret is Richmond Oyster Suppliers. For many years, it was the main supplier of seafood to Melbourne restaurants. It has grown considerably, now offering sit down meals. Have a dozen of Melbourne’s freshest oysters, or take a crayfish home to eat on the balcony with a glass of chilled Chardonnay. Richmond Oyster Suppliers is located at 437 Church St, just round the corner from the Alto.
If you’re into chilling out and having fun, visit Grandma Funk’s – taste their offering of simple food served in a quirky retro atmosphere – look for them at 256 Swan Street.
The eastern end of Swan Street Richmond was once dominated by the Greek restaurants of 1950?s Melbourne such as Laikon at 270 Swan Street, where you can still watch Greeks watching Greeks.
Another popular restaurant is Agapi (‘love’ in Greek), a place for the romantics. The place, located at 262 Swan Street, is often full so booking is recommended.
One of Richmond Melbourne’s best kept secret is Der Raum a dark modernist bar with German influences. It was voted 3rd in the “world’s best bars” top 100, and in 2008, it was named Australian Bar of the Year, for Australian Gourmet Traveller. This world-famous bar is located at 438 Church Street.
