There are few places in Melbourne or Victoria better served by public transport than Richmond.
Trams Victoria
Alto Richmond is on the doorstep of Melbourne, just minutes from the city by the Swan St tram. The tram stop is just at our corner.
The number 70 tram route takes you via the sporting precinct. You can stop at the MCG, the main sporting stadium in Victoria, or you can stop earlier and visit the new Rugby stadium or the Tennis Centre which also doubles as a premium entertainment stadium. People from all over Victoria come to attend performances.
The trams up Church St (numbers 78,79) take you north to the fashion outlets shopping strip and restaurants in Bridge Road, and the restaurants in Victoria Street. Heading south takes you directly to the Chapel St fashion shopping and club area.
You can get an all day ticket and travel unlimited on all public transport.
Trains Victoria
East Richmond station is around the corner in Church St, conveniently taking you to Melbourne City. Richmond station is a hub for the eastern suburbs, on the fringe of country Victoria.
Car Victoria
Richmond is on the edge of the freeway system and central distributors easily allowing you to get to any part of the city or Victoria.
Swan Street takes you to the MCG and the Melbourne city Centre and the central attractions like the Arts Centre. Punt road takes you to Victoria St and the eastern fringe of the city.
A few minutes from your Richmond accomodation you can connect with the SE Freeway, taking you through eastern suburbs to Dandenong, East Victoria and beyond.
Heading West on the freeway takes you across the Westgate bridge to Western Victoria and the Great Ocean Road. Also West you can pick up the Bolte Bridge to take you north to Melbourne Airport along the Tullamarine Freeway, and northern Victoria. The Tullamarine freeway also connects to the Western Ring Road and on Hume Highway to Sydney via North East Victoria.
Some interstate guests take a taxi from the airport – just 25 minutes off-peak to Richmond, or even hire a car from there and drop it back when they return.
